Each year, local chapters of AFP highlight the philanthropists, volunteer fundraisers and fundraising professionals in their midst. The 2018 award winners selected by the AFP Eastern Iowa Chapter are:
Outstanding Individual Philanthropist – Henry and Patricia Tippie – longtime supporters of higher education who have helped elevate the quality an prominence of the University of Iowa, Coe College and Kirkwood Community College.
Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser – Sam Jones, Vice President at Shuttleworth & Ingersoll, who led Willis Dady’s $3 million capital campaign and has been involved with numerous nonprofits, including the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art and The History Center.
Outstanding Large Organization – UFG Insurance, a Cedar Rapids based company that has contributed millions to local nonprofits and was founded by Scott “Scotty” McIntyre Sr.
Outstanding Small Organization – Roy J Carver Charitable Trust – a generous foundation created through the will of Muscatine industrialist and philanthropist Roy J. Carver, who died in 1981, and has given millions to many nonprofit organizations.
Outstanding Fundraising Professional – David Dierks, vice president of the University of Iowa Foundation. Among his accomplishments was initiating the University’s planned and major giving program.
Benjamin Franklin Awards
Jack Roeder — former general manager for the Cedar Rapids Kernels who is president of Prospect Meadows, the newly developed softball/baseball complex northeast of Marion.
Helen G. Nassif (posthumous) – an attorney and philanthropist known for making transformative gifts in her hometown of Cedar Rapids to support organizations from Coe College to the Cedar Rapids YMCA, and especially to UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s Hospital.
