Summary: The Marketing and Communications Manager is responsible for shaping the message and managing/advancing the brand of a highly dynamic non-profit organization and popular regional attraction for children and families. This position requires both a deep commitment to mission-driven work and a strong command of multiple types of technical skills in the marketing and communications realm. The successful candidate must demonstrate a willingness and ability to seamlessly shift between high-level strategic work and time-sensitive, day-to-day tasks.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Guest Welcome Center Specialists
Designs and implements the annual marketing plan within The ICM’s budget.
Develops and executes a comprehensive public awareness program to increase visibility in name and recognition, leading to financial increases in both earned and contributed income.
Creates and coordinates a strategic community outreach program that utilizes opportunities to regularly engage with and advocate for The ICM throughout Iowa.
Partners with the director of development in the execution of special event fundraisers and on various annual efforts to convert museum members into donors.
Oversees The ICM’s official website, including, but not limited to, updating content, adding events to the organizational calendar, and setting up registrations for events, camps and other programming.
Oversees The ICM’s social media presence; designs/implements social media marketing strategy and engages with the public online in a timely and professional fashion.
Oversees The ICM’s communications and public relations strategies, including, but not limited to, press releases, photo/video shoots and news appearances.
Oversees and coordinates with vendors on The ICM’s advertising campaigns and other opportunities, including print, digital and social.
Oversees and coordinates graphic design for The ICM while maintaining quality visuals and brand consistency across all print and web materials. This includes, but is not limited to, web graphics, social media graphics, logos, vinyl lettering and graphics, flyers, special events, etc.
Oversees the Guest Welcome Center in the Coral Ridge Mall, guiding staff to exemplify outstanding marketing strategies for The ICM, Coral Ridge Mall and the City of Coralville. Serves as a liaison among all key stakeholders for ensuring success in this area.
Serves as an ICM staff liaison with the Board of Directors and member of the staff leadership team.
Leads the board Marketing Committee, setting meetings, agendas, overall strategy, etc.
Collaborates with the Executive Director and the Director of Development to achieve key community relations goals and represents The ICM at events throughout the community.
Increases the financial stability of The ICM by maximizing resources and helping to grow revenues from both earned and contributed income sources.
Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
College degree or equivalent experience required.
At least three years of communications/marketing experience required.
Ability to plan, motivate and lead others.
Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills required.
Graphic design, photography and videography skills highly desired.
Working familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress (or similar applications), Constant Contact and social media networks (primarily Facebook and Instagram) highly desired.
Self-motivated and responsible.
Highly organized and capable of juggling multiple priorities, projects and deadlines.
Flexibility and a strong sprit of teamwork are essential.
Enthusiastic about working in a children’s museum environment.
Appreciates the value of The Power of Play.
Work Schedule: Generally weekdays, Monday-Friday. Some evening and weekend work required throughout the year, especially during (and in the days preceding) major special event fundraisers and ICM celebrations, as well as peak seasons for museum traffic.
Compensation: $37,500-$45,000 annually based on relevant experience in the field; paid time-off; health, dental, vision, life, retirement, disability and all other federally mandated benefits.
We believe that, in order to create the team-oriented atmosphere that is crucial to our success, we should never ask another staff member to do a job that we would not do ourselves (i.e. clean, pick up props, attend to a toilet training accident, etc).
