The Salvation Army Heartland Division – Gift Advisor

Non profit organization has an opening for a full-time Gift Advisor with travel throughout Quad Cities, Cedar Rapids, Dubuque, Waterloo/Cedar Falls, Iowa and Sterling/Rock Falls, Freeport, LaSalle/Peru, Ill. Duties include but not limited to: Identify and cultivate major and planned giving donors throughout the Heartland Division through mailings, phone calls, personal visits, program tours, special event contacts etc; provide counsel to Corps Officers, Corps Development Directors and Boards for fundraising activities such as Christmas kettles, capital campaigns, annual fund, direct mail, endowment, donor recognition programs; visit professionals to build awareness of The Salvation Army; cultivate professional contacts for Estate & Charitable Gift Planning web-casts and seminars; assist Corps Officers with board development through personal visits, presentations, workshops, educational seminars, newsletters, creation of Advisory teams and others; attend Board meetings and committee meetings as needed; assist Corps with cultivating volunteers for their programs; provide counsel to Corps Officers for special events assisting with planning; build understanding for value of direct mail process for improvement and effectiveness; develop in-house mailings throughout the year while selecting target audiences; provide counsel for media awareness with the Divisional Community Relations Director; cultivate new friends through visits and presentations to service clubs, church groups, senior Corps programs, retirement centers etc; complete weekly, monthly and quarterly reports as required.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three to five years experience in planned giving, fundraising or financial planning; must have a background in fundraising; should have knowledge of The Salvation Army and the organizations operations; ability to build relationships with donors and Corps Officers; must act as a professional; must be dependable and compassionate and be loyal to the mission of The Salvation Army; must be able to pass a background check; have a valid driver’s license and be able to pass a yearly motor vehicle check.
